Bullied Nostalgia: Season 4 in Review
Game plan
Well, it's been a wild year full of Dinosaurs and GRAAAAANDMAs. But we're not done yet. So, gather some snacks and get comfy. Join us for all the laughs that come from reggae singing Christmas ghosts and being shipped with the Chipettes.
See you in season 5. ;)
So many of our favors to watch well. Look, now they're being bashed. I guess that's what we should expect on the Bullied Nostalgia Podcast.
Lookout for weirdos. Welcome to the Bullied Nostalgia Podcast, where we praise Beethoven and revisit movies from our childhoods as adults. You've got a lot to go through. As this season comes to a close, we're celebrating all things dinosaurs and all things grandma.
Grandma. It's been a season where we reviewed both the highest rated movie according to Rotten Tomatoes as well as the lowest. Needless to say, it's been a wild ride. I hope we don't hit an iceberg and we end this season strong, but only time will tell. Well, don't forget to breathe in and out. I'm Tim and I'm joined by Kai. So that was 5 intros out of 51. Chance. That's me. And John? Hello, should we mention our special guest? Well. It sounds like he's going to be talking regardless of whether or not we are, so Chance's little one is sitting next to him too, so he might chime in at any point.
We'll see. Yeah, he'll give his two cents. Isn't that right, bud? No incorrect. So for anyone looking for us or more of our podcast, you can find us at [email protected] or on any of the socials. We're all over the place now. Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, you name it. And you can find our merch on redbubble.com by searching Bullied Pod. Today's episode has us look back at the last year and review the big hits and big misses of our fourth year podcasting together. Before I get into the data, what are people's hot takes on Season 4?
Looking back, how do you feel about it? I think we were remiss to not feature some of our more beloved guest stars. I've said before that the episodes with Eric are some of my favorite and unfortunately we were not able to have an episode there this last season. Yeah, due to a scheduling conflict, Eric wasn't able to join us, and I was going to talk about this during our lunatic session, but that was supposed to be the Babysitter's Club with Eric, and John watched the Babysitter's Club before that movie.
I sure did. Good thing I made notes so I won't have to rewatch it again are. You sure it won't be fresh in your mind? It's in my brain, my brain, the center of my chain. OK, he did take notes or he just watched it tonight. It's hard to say. John, what are your thoughts on Season 4 I. Feel like season 4 was maybe the most amount of properties that I haven't actually seen before, so it's getting a little bit more exposure to watching some things I was vaguely familiar with or had never seen, which was exciting, getting exposure to that stuff.
Until after you'd seen it and then you're like oh crap. True. I just, I just think Chance and Kylan are so lucky to watch all these things they've never seen before. I've now seen the absolute gift it is to be exposed to new things. And I mean, I like dinosaurs, so the more dinosaurs you fit into anything, I think it only makes things better. Did we have a dinosaurs count? Did anybody keep that? I did OK, John. What? Really. How? Many was it. We mentioned dinosaurs in six episodes. The most notable dinosaurs sore episode apart from Land Before Time and Dino writers was Miracle on 31st St. We had so much time before action that terrible and he.
Hate the Miracle on 34th St. episode. I was told to be a lawyer and you wouldn't have any of it. OK, we'll just come back to that guy. Tell us your thoughts on Season 4. It felt. Both shorter and longer than it was. OK, elaborate. When I scroll to the. Bottom of season 4. It's like, that was a long time ago. But then I scroll to up and it's like OK, that was very recent. It has both episodes that I have classified in long term memory and in short term memory in the. Past I've shared fun data about where we are in the search list when you're looking for podcasts.
That number continues to improve for people who are looking for anything nostalgia related. We are now the 14th podcast that you will find I. Nostalgia for like, anything or nostalgia for movies. Well I mean if you Google nostalgia on Spotify there's 14 train podcasts. That's what I was wondering. Two separate metrics, John. We are 14th for nostalgic TV, but also we are 14th for just straight up nostalgia. So if you were to change it up to like nostalgic quilting, we probably would drop quite a few metrics, but this was.
Too many people doing nostalgic quilting. Yeah, we're catching the people who aren't specific that they're looking for quilting. Crazy enough, we're actually #7 on nostalgic quilting. I don't know what the crossover is there. But it's a very tight knit fan base. Tight knit. Tight knit? I didn't even know. That wasn't conventional. No, no, I thought that was just reaching for the lowest Berry. Fruit. No, I'm always there. I'm always with the lowest Berry. I also talked a little bit about this year's metrics in our 50th episode.
So I don't have a ton more that I want to share, except that our little Canadian podcast has seen quite a bit of growth South of the border this year. Over the last few months, US listeners far outnumber Canadian ones for the first time. Speaking of North America, we've had listeners in most parts of it. People have listened to our podcast in 35 States and seven provinces from a back end perspective. Another change about this season is that our podcast joined TikTok. I've been making 32nd clips for the last year and they've been seen by 10s of thousands of people, some of which have come over.
That feels weird. You can't see that. Some of them have come over and actually listened to our podcast. OK, before we breakdown the season, I wanted to give people an opportunity to find their inner bad movie. Earlier this year, John had us pick which Land Before Time character we would embody. So I thought it would be fun for each of us to be the avatar of one of our episodes this season. They don't want us to pick for ourselves. Which episode this season do you think most embodies John? Oh, can we give him lunatics?
I don't think lunatics is quite an. Embody. Well, I think it does. We see so much of the positive, but lunatics is a rare instance in which you truly hated something, and I think it was one of my favorite moments in the whole season. I think John do this day product. All right, John, sounds like chance picked for you. Do you think I am? So are we just picking episodes that people hated them? Is that the consensus? We good. Break the change on be the change. For Tim, he got most off the rails in Miracle on 31st St. He wasn't a judge or a lawyer, he just kind of got to.
Showed up in the courtroom be a wild. Card he. Was the dinosaur. Because Tim was so focused on dinosaurs in that episode, his avatar is Mr. Attenborough, the Santa Claus actor riding on the back of a dinosaur from Dino Ride. Can I rephrase John's since I was offered and then Chance gave it for me? John is Michael Jackson singing Have You Seen My Childhood? But he's stuck in the jail from Elbow and Grouchland. Am I inside an Orca outfit? If you want to be, I guess, might you ask that? Do you really?
Want to? Chance also needs to keep 1 friend. John, just so you know, there's a ton of battle damage going on over there. Me. Yes. What's? The sound you're hearing like I don't. Look like. You're in a wind tunnel. Yeah, it's fine. Right now. It's like it's rustling against clothing or something periodically. OK, All right. I'm going to give chance. The embodiment of Archer from small soldiers and he is carrying the metallic whip from Spot hard that gets seen and not used because Archer doesn't fight.
He would have a cool weapon just for show. All right, Chance, What's ties Avatar? Kylan is the bad guy from Adventures of Elmo and Grouchland, yeah. OK, that's it, that's it. OK, so let's jump into the episodes this season and chat about them. The season opener this year, I was very excited to circle back to a joke that we had made a year ago. I put out this episode on the anniversary of the fluffy episode the year before and in retrospect to you guys, I am super embarrassed by that joke. And she was all good.
It was really bad. Oh, that's the Free Willy episode, by the way. Yeah, I know Free Willy. We joked about it on that episode that that would scare people away from our podcast, and I think it did. It did. I think that it definitely stopped a lot of potential listeners. Kim, you've got to take risks and you took a risk and that's OK. Not all risks pay off to avoid confusion. This is the Free Willy 2 episode where somehow Tim did a Fluffy's anniversary as what if they took over the world. But we are talking about Free Willy 2 right now.
Yeah, every once in a while you'll make like a little album cover for one of the episodes and I'll be like, oh, that's kind of horrible. I'm loving Tim's album covers and especially his synopsis. Has anybody looked hard at the Ewoks cover? Not particularly should I? Anyways. It's Kirby falling down the chasm, yeah. Amazing. Anyways, Free Willy, it was weird having an episode where we come back to it later in the 50th episode. Right, because because we end up watching the cartoon episode. Absolutely.
It was very weird hearing us talk about this TV show, like it's this wild and crazy thing, and it's like, yeah, I know. Sucked shut up. Past version of me. That's fun. Free Willy twos where we started getting into some AI battles between Eagle and Orcas. Let's talk about that. John gave out a bunch of awards last year. This year we used AI to force fights between orcas and eagles and to write chances dialogue for him. I. Forgot about that. Good. If we were giving an award to AI this year, what would it be?
What? Would you say like most controversy guest host? OK. So this is where I realized that my rating system sucked. It says try to grasp straws for anything. Oh yeah. What was your rating? It was this. Adjective system. Instead of saying this is a three out of five, because that doesn't mean much, I would say, oh, this is a pretty good movie that is. Right, your two word descriptors is the. Yeah, I was using actual adjectives that fit the scenario. So I would say it was a fun but not very great movie.
Kind of. This is a black and white movie. Chance, is this you just getting revenge for someone else's rating system? It is, yeah. At the start of the season, I was keeping track of how many times I disagreed with chance. I only noticed one episode where I agreed with your chance and every other episode I was adamantly against whatever ranking you had made. Was the one you agreed really Dino riders? OK, well let's talk about Dino riders. I mean anytime Land before Time is brought up I'm a fan so imagining Spike with the machine gun on his back going it was pretty good.
Do you think it's funny that we did the Lamb Before Time episode right after and we didn't brief Brad on what the Dino Riders episode was and it hadn't even come out yet when he recorded the episode with us? And somehow all of his conspiracies tied perfectly into Dino Riders. Did we ever get that shirt? Dinosaurs, guns don't kill people. Nothing kills people. I don't think we did. I put it on the list, but I wanted to give some spacing between that and the Transformers. What? Because it's so similar?
But it is very funny. The same joke. I guess we're talking about Lamb before Time 3. So John made it sound in that episode like people shipping fictional characters was something that other people did. But to be clear, as someone who's known John for a long time, he loves to ship fictional characters. Really. We started watching the old Green Arrow show Arrow together and there's 2 characters, Felicity and Diggle. Felicity was the love interest for the main character but John needed her to be shipped with someone else.
I don't know how many videos he sent me from YouTube. Finn and Ray from Star Wars, all of their scenes set to some love song because they had to. OK, JJ Abrams shipped them in the first movie and then they changed directors twice, so I didn't. Know not a ship. If it's the writer's idea, then it's Canon. That's right guys. JJ Abrams was my fan fiction. I think everyone was anticipating there was going to be a lot more romantic YouTube compilations of Finn and Ray. John, you often look at romantic compilations of characters.
Just the ones he's shipping. Yes, and I do think it is something that your everyday person does, right listeners? John, I'm not hearing anybody. They're saying yes in a couple months time. Yeah, all of his spy hard votes are saying yes, right? Now you know what, with how popular we're getting, maybe people are shipping us. No, no. No, John. You need to think those through, John. Who would they be shipping? I didn't. I'm getting shipped with AI. I'm not talking about with each other, I'm saying someone might want to ship me with another celebrity.
OK, name 3. Three other celebrities. Name three celebrities that you think it would be plausible that one of our listeners would ship you with. Well, I'm probably too old to be shipped with any of the chipettes.
I think the chip hats are about as old as you are. So something that I appreciate about the Land Before Time 3 Episode 2 that doesn't normally come out in this podcast is that we hold back the curtain a little bit on cannibalism jokes. Yeah, we were really breaking the glass ceiling on that one. It's real subtle. John, just so you know, the chip hats were first introduced in 1983. Sorry, Tim Sage. Exactly. Yeah, Tim, anything you want to tell us about any YouTube couple? It's not shipping if it's cannons.
Yes. I love a good cannibal joke and John hates them so anytime the one sneaks through the cracks I'm a big fan. Speaking of sneaking through the cracks, Tim also loved my poop joke in that episode. It's true, that one, I laughed. Pretty. Hard.
That was pretty good, right? How? How He falls from grace. John, I like the fact that you are laughing at that poop joke and. Nobody else it was. So good. OK, the LEM Before Time episode is also the episode where Kai traded in his scoring cookies officially for his new system. And I was going to talk about scoring later in the podcast, but this one's so topical that I'm going to talk about Kai's scoring right now. Kai told us he would review each episode as Bob Marley and predict what the ghosts of past, present and future would think of movies.
Neither of those things happen. Look away, I forgot that I did this in this episode. Not only did we not see any ghostly predictions, but I don't know if you know who Bob Marley is. Bob Marley. Yes, he sings. No woman, no cry. I'm leaving. You guys can do the. Rest of the series without me. Oh my goodness. Feels like I'm talking about a paperweight again. I'm so tired already so. We'd be done here. Can we be done? So we did miss a good opportunity because we talked about all this Christmas talk and then I put it in my notes, even to circle back to for the Christmas episode.
I didn't open my notes in time, I guess. So missed opportunities I guess. Chance I remember you feeling quite fondly of Chomper in Land Before Time 5. You felt like Chomper could have his own spin offs, maybe in some different movie genres. So I said that. You did? Oh no chance you love Chomper this episode. I don't remember. That love, love, love. Was that an impression for a lot of more time Chomper? Sitting in the tree. I'm the shipper now.
Anyways, I invited our controversial guest AI to come up with a list of Chomper movie mashups. Are we thinking like Chomper in Men in Black? Is that what this kind of thing is? Yeah, it gave me 15 ideas. I'm just going to read the top 4. OK, we've. Got best? Or top as in. The yeah. What are the top four? The first ones that came back with or your favorites. Oh my favorites. We've got the Chomper games. In a harsh future, young dinosaurs are forced into survival trials, and Chopper becomes an unlikely symbol of rebellion.
OK, the silence of the Chomp.
The Quiet Valley is terrorized by mysterious disappearances, and all clues point to a predator no one suspects. The T Rex, The sharp tooth. No one suspects that. No spike. Yeah, it's definitely Spike in the end. Yeah, Spike is the murder. We've got a few good dinosaurs. Chomper defends a fellow Dino accused of attacking the herd, uncovering a conspiracy that shakes the valley. My top pick is the ROM option. It's called you've got tail. No, no, I wonder. Crime. Chomper navigates awkward long distance love after forming a bond with a pen pal, Dino from beyond the Great Valley.
I think I say beyond the grave I. Am not convinced that John found these through AI. What are you suggesting? Some popular fanfics out there of Chomper finding out that Littlefoot killed his. Parents, do you think this was on the Dark Web of Land Before Time wiki? Or that you wrote it on the Dark Web of Land Before Time wiki. Possibly my favorite moment from the Land Before Time episode was when I brought up the AI battles between the characters and Kai's like well Petrie's obviously going to win.
I'm like, first one would die, Petrie. Going from our most controversial guest to our most controversial episode, John, we're eight months past it at this point. Looking back, what do you have to say about Spy Hard? Fries, I did actually rank all the episodes in terms of my preference. Where did Spy hard land on that? Probably 9th. Wow, I appreciate your honesty. I appreciated the idea of you guys watching it and getting to hear you talk about the suffering you went through and getting to laugh at that.
That was fun. Probably what bumped it down to 9th place was that it also grieved you guys an opportunity to talk about how much you dislike referential humor. OK, John, you hated this one. Tell us about lunatics. Yeah, half the episode was about Space Jam 2. That's true. I did appreciate that we got to meet the other side of chance. What's up fam? It's me. My alter ego, you feel me? Yo, what's good? What is good dog? But those were my most memorable moments. Everything else I have to say about lunatics, I already said it in the episode.
All right, so after Lunatics, we came in with Witches. We've long said if we watch a good movie, we have a hard time making a good episode. But Witches was a great episode, and we've already established it's like a 95 or something on Rotten Tomatoes, so it throws that concept out the window. And I think it's just because it's weird. Yeah, it's crazy. Yes. The concept of it, the world that they built, the universe that it happens in, there's just so many. Well, if that's true, then does that mean this is true?
We got to riff on that world building a lot. My number one take away is there's so many times I could have been abducted as a kid by someone who didn't have purple eyes. Oh, OK, I'll. Follow you. You don't have purple eyes? You were looking at all the wrong people. Yeah, false flag. I was given the rules. I didn't know no one else was playing by them. And for all we know, by the time you get into the late 90s, witches could have been wearing colored contact lenses, I like to think. They know it's unfair.
That feels like cheating. One of the witches would suggest it at one of their board meetings and then they'll head which would laser beamer with her eyes. Yeah, their laser beams can't go through the colored contact. It's like a cyclops situation. I do feel like the witches finally gave us the answer of who our weirdos are. Or we've been saying all this time, lookout for weirdos, but we. Found them. Yeah. What does that even mean? What do we do with weirdos once we found them? Except snakes and chocolates from them.
That's OK. Who gives a kid a snake and thinks do it for come down from your tree house, I'll give you a big snake. I mean, the chocolate clearly wasn't working, so she had to think of something. I like to think that there's different forms of education within the witches and some just aren't that learned in their witchy ways. This is a great Valley situation. Yeah, the haves and have nots really. That witch is from District 12. Of the Chomper games, Yeah, after the witches came the Chipmunk adventure and my shipped love interest.
I feel like the episode was mostly Tim defending his nostalgia. And where the heck did that Penguin pendant photo? Come from We also learned a lot about illegal diamond trade. Their strategies are so outlandish that no one would think to look for the Dinos in a sunken ship for a windmill. John, look for the Dinos. That's what I heard too. He was trying to sneak dinosaurs into another episode. Subliminal messaging. Look at the prehistoric tongue. Later in the podcast, John's just. Going to be like Dinos, Dinos, Dinos.
OK, so Miracle on 34th St. Revisiting that episode, I had an epiphany. Dylan Mcdermott's character is named Brian. Does Brian owe Kris Kringle life debt or something? Yeah, it's like kind of insane. You'll do anything you won't know. Today. But someday I will once again get in trouble with the law, and I need you to be. There, I'm not just talking about the legal battle, I'm talking about how he is going out of his way to mess up his relationship with his girlfriend and his future daughter over to Santa Claus.
He does so much stuff to get her to believe in Santa. Is it one of those situations where it's when the sun shines and the ice melts like the shadow, calling back an old favor? The sun is shining, but the ice is slippery. Oh yeah, but. Ice, Ice. Slippery. There, here we go. I was just surprised that more than one of you had the idea that Santa manipulated some hygiene products so that they would end up having a baby. We used the word condom in the previous episode. OK, OK, You're the one who said it.
And you were surprised that we came to the obvious conclusion? Yeah, it's kind of hard to not think that. Chance you will be happy to hear there's a TikTok of that Oh. Yeah, that's what I want my digital footprint to be. I I hate that episode, but I also love it just a little bit. I was playing by the rules and you guys weren't. Chance was a biased judge and dad was talking about dinosaurs. It's like the law and Order intro. There are people who apprehend the suspects and then there are lawyers and dinosaurs.
That was one of my favorite moments of the whole season. Kylan was taking it very, very seriously, and every so many sentences Tim would pretend like he was saying something relevant to what Kai was saying, but it would turn into a reference to the Jurassic Park movie. And in a certain part, Tim starts speaking. Kai hasn't even heard him say a few words. And Kai's just like stop. Talking about dinosaurs. Yeah, hold on to your stockings. Ho ho ho didn't say the magic word.
It's so good. Clever girl with the Raptor wrapping the present. All right, let's talk about Elmo. Let's address the Elmo in the room. We know that our demographic varies, so every once in a while you need to do an episode for the Cool Kid 1 Ticket to Elmo, please. Here's my favorite joke. I also like the quote when Kim was like John and Josh thought they were making fun of the movie and then they had to blow raspberries and the movie's like hold my beard. There is also a ticket for that part. Blowing raspberries is so gross I can't even somebody needed to get.
Fired. Sure. OK, OK. Mandy Patinkin. What's the bad guy's name in this movie again? Kylan, use your clicky. Keys. Look it up. I'm not on my computer right now. I know it's completely out of context, like it was at a different episode, but one of my favorite moments from this whole season was Kai's. I'm looking it up. Huxley. Huxley, there it is. Huxley, yes. Looking it up, yeah, Huxley eyebrows think are a symbiotic relationship. Yeah, they're like face mites. What do you think they eat the bugs in his eyebrows?
Well, they are his eyebrows. They. Eat his dead skin. Well I was thinking maybe they eat the sleep in his eyes or something like that. So something more nightmare fuelish than they could. Have a big ego? Your head gets bigger. Those are there to eat the excess head that's growing. Well, that's pretty good. Is this a metaphor for Kai because he's the Huxley guy? I don't know why you called me Huxley. I don't know we. I thought it was funny. It genuinely has nothing to do with me. I mean, Chance did assign mean things to everyone that yeah.
Yeah, I just think it's funny. So in small soldiers they try and give this concept like the Gorgons survived against this army of 1000 commandos, but we know. Oh. Hold on, Dad. One second. One second. It was so confused. Yes, sorry. We know the Gorgons.
We know that Chip Hazard goes to the department store and comes back with hundreds of commandos. Presumably that store didn't sell just Commandos. So did they massacre? Them. Yeah, I think that means that they murdered a lot of things off screen, yeah. Where's that story? So I put Small Soldiers as my least favorite episode of the season. Reason being, yeah, I felt like we just explained the movie. Yeah, we didn't really joke about the movie, which I think explains it's such a short runtime for a podcast episode because we didn't really joke.
That's interesting. I also don't regard it as one of our better episodes this season, and often you can tell that by runtime. If there are good jokes, I'll leave them in and let the time stretch out. I'm pretty sure that's the shortest this episode of the season, and it's because once I cut everything that wasn't instrumental or a joke, there wasn't much left. Yeah. I think it was just because there's so much going on in the world, but not much to talk about. In the real. World Relation. In the world of toy soldiers.
You mean like shipping chip hazard with bazooka anyways? I just feel like Chip, Hazard and Archer need to make up. Make up or make up? Yeah, make up, make up. Whenever we do these seasons in review, I find that we rarely have things to talk about when we get to the really recent episodes because they haven't really had time to percolate and see new things yet. But. That's fair. We did just have our 50th episode. Any thoughts on that? I would say the 50th episode was my least favorite of this season.
I think the first half is pretty good, but the second-half, when we start talking about these random episodes we watched, Small Soldiers at least has the benefit of cohesion, whereas this one is kind of all over the place. And as a guy who watched all the episodes we were talking about, it felt difficult to follow. So I couldn't imagine just being somebody who did not have the luxury of seeing the episodes of the shows we were talking. About it did feel like an issue of quantity over quality because we were bouncing around to so many things.
And I think Captain Planet and maybe even Sonic were so good that they deserved maybe their own episodes, but just had to kind of cram that into a couple minutes. But echoing what Chan said earlier, Kais aggressive keystrokes as well as Kai getting unhinged when it came to talking about the commercials at the end, those were the highlights for me. I agree. And that brings us to our most recent episode and that is Ewoks. I know that everyone hated these movies, but they made for a great episode. I had a lot of fun.
Yes, the Ewoks episode. It was so perfect for making fun of these movies that the episode just pretty much wrote itself. Yeah. And we were able to follow along with the movie, but because the movie's so outrageous and funny, it's asking to be made fun of. I had a little bit less of an enjoyable time just because I was haunted by my second movie experience. Never again. Watch a second movie again. I'm not doing this podcast anymore. We only watch sequels. I can't do it. Yeah, ask me to watch just the second one.
I'm fine. I'll do first and third, the first and third. I don't know if this stuff is going to make it into the cut of this episode, but I did research into that. You walks after that you walk episode stuff I should have done beforehand. It sounds like George Lucas wrote the movies because he had a new daughter and he was using his imagination and telling stories that he thought would be good stories for her that. Fence. You were wrong, George. I laughed you out of the writing room. Yeah. I did do that.
I enjoyed the idea of Wicked being a serial killer that Syndal later learns about. It's amazing. Chance I really liked how when we were talking about the giant, you were getting really hyped up about the idea that this giant might have really big architecture and then you got really sad and it was just a dining room table I'm. Still sad about that. I really like good world building my. Only question for you is what did you expect from Ewoks caravan Courage? I don't know. I keep getting my hopes up and keep realizing that's a bad idea, yeah.
You shouldn't have hopes and dreams. Here Jazz. This podcast is filled with misery. Yeah. Kylin, are you OK? You need to take a break. I got called out for calling of Bob Marley. Yeah, I need a break. We'll give you 5 minutes talking about things that were different in season 4. This is the first season where I watched it with none of you. The only thing I watched with you was the Saturday morning cartoons for the 50th episode Chance. And I didn't watch together once. Oh wow. So that means I can no longer keep tabs on Sleepy Sleepy Chance.
We don't actually know if he's watched any of these movies or if he's just going off AI summaries. My wife told me recently she got a call from John asking if I've been sleeping through a movie.
I was doing a little bit of reconnaissance for this episode. And what did you find, John? Your wife is willing to lie for you. Oh my God, but. The thing that I was expecting you to say there was my wife says I'm very good at staying awake in movies, but you're actually saying that so. That's. Because every single episode, at a certain point, you begin to lose it, lose consciousness, yeah. Sure. Well, we're razzing on chance. I already took some time to embarrass Kai this episode about his scoring, so we need to talk a little bit about chances, scores.
Oh. Goody. Just like previous year's chance, I'm breaking it down as to what you gave a 0123 or 42, so here goes. You gave 10 this year to Spy. Hard no notice. That movie sucks. I love it, I love it. No, you don't. Not the movie. You're suffering.
Bulk of the movies landed in one Free Willy, 2 Dino Riders, Land Before Time, 5 Elmo and Grouchland and the Ewoks. I do think some of those things suck more than others, but none of them as bad as Spyhard so no notes. You gave 2 twos this year, 1 to Lunatics and the other two The Chipmunk Adventure. I think that that's fair. Those are better than the movies that you gave ones to. Thank you for threes. You gave 2 as well, one to Witches and one to Miracle on 34th St., which both queer holiday movies and so it makes sense that they are threes.
You gave one for this season. Here comes the other foot. Is it small soldiers? It's small soldiers. Care to explain? I think I gave a pretty apartment description. I have a lot of buddies of mine who really love Hell Divers. Again, I don't think it's for everyone. You could have a really fun time with small soldiers. So it's a great experience, not a good. Experience. I don't regret my decision to put that as a four, not agree with it, but that is my decision. It's better than some of us. Some of us cannot agree with our past selves and our ranking systems.
Some of us are the ghosts of Christmas. Bob Marley. Tim putting people on the spot. Do you remember offhand the three movies or TV shows you'd rewatch from this season? I definitely said I would rewatch Chipmunk Adventure. Accurate. I said that I would probably end up watching some Dino riders in the future. Correct. And you've got one more. It would either be Miracle on 34th or Small Soldiers is probably small soldiers. It was small soldiers, so maybe that's a four in your books too. Nope. Definitely not.
Did you have some other notes on things that were different this year, John? I have some notes on some mind blowing moments. Okay, I've got mind blowing moment. Bing Bing, Bing, Bing, Bing. #5. Yeah, how many are there? John Kyle will do the countdown. No chance is already doing it. Number one. What are those? Watch. Watch Mojo Welcome to watch Mojos John's most mind blowing moments. OK, sorry chance, go ahead. Start with #3 #3 these are similarities between Beast Wars and Dino Riders. Oh, there's so many.
Like what? They are the same show. I said that in the episode. I've always liked Beast Wars but by default have to think less of it after seeing Dino Riders because so much is pulled from that. OK, I'm ready for the next one. #2. I discovered that Kylan has never seen the original land before time. Yes. We. Know you introduced him. To it. We'll be watching it in the next 10. Yeah, something actually, that is another TikTok chance, one of my favorite lines when you say that you'll have a kid in Grade 5, and I say actually they'll be.
Too old for it. They'll be like 30. And chance, the last one, number one, they feel like you have to say #1. The one you've been waiting for or something like that. And now the one you've been waiting for. Like and subscribe if you agree #1. That all four live action chipmunk films Rotten Tomato scores add up to 75%, which is the score the animated movie. That was amazing. Oh, that's so good. And. I just love that we realized that all together at the same time. What a great moment. That's going to be a tik.
T.O.K Something else that was different this year is we didn't have an episode meant that was John, you're in a thunderstorm again. Are you putting a wind elemental? Chance that's an eagle. I'll have you now. He's dressed up as an orca. Michael Jackson. In jail. Now I reference the static and the noise. I might have to keep it in the podcast. That's unfortunate you. Just have to. Keep this done. You should know better than that. Normally in our podcast each season there's an episode chosen specifically to grief chance, and we didn't do that this year.
So I don't know, do we do all descendants next season is? Do we just rewatch the first one over and over again? Put him in a room with it and just leave him there. Emma says he didn't fall asleep. Oh. That's good to know. Tim, I did want to get an update on the Descendants podcast episode viewership. Are we moving towards our goal? I haven't been keeping track of it. I mean, we're always moving towards it. But something that Chance would be very happy to hear is the Tik Toks that have taken off the most by a long shot.
Are all the descendants Tik Toks? Those are huge, and I actually see an uptick in our episode viewership when a descendant's TikTok comes out. Are you saying land before time isn't relating with tik tokers as well? You know what John, you will be happy to hear that Land before time Tik toks get the second most attention. Oh baby chance. I got a bit of a hashtag humble brag over here. I know how Descendants 5 ends. No fire. I know someone who was in the final scenes. Somebody's going to get assassinated by Mickey Mouse now Dad can't keep his mouth shut.
Tim, just circling back for a moment. When it comes to callbacks at the end of our episodes, some have really just held on. We've got a couple new introductions this season, but I did count how many times each of them were said. And when it comes to callbacks from previous seasons, there was 3 callbacks that were mentioned 10 different times. We've got lookout for weirdos, praise Beethoven, and don't forget to breathe in and out at 7 times. We've got adventure, Jamie, Adventure. The new ones that really got some repetition were Have You seen my childhood five times?
But farm? Oh no, just once more, is Grandma Grandma. Well, it depends on how many times Chad said. Grandma. Yeah, you said grandma. Lot of signs that's. Probably.
More like 1314. And I think you'll wait till I start talking before he'll say it again. OK, I'm going to take the risk constraint.
Are you planning on doing? That I think it's my favorite reoccurring joke. But we did take Lookout for Weirdos and put a whole bunch of spins on it this year, like Lookout for Weirdos Who and then fill in the blank that had something to do with the movie we watched. Yeah, there's a couple breakouts this year. 2 tickets to Elmo please. OK, well I guess closing, if someone came up to you 4 years ago and said hey, I want to do 4 years of a podcast together. If you had a time machine and you could go back and warn yourself that this is what it was going to be like, what would you say to the version of you that's trying to decide?
Keep in mind Kyland and Chance were minors so I don't know how much opportunity they had to say no at that time. As I could. Imagine I would go back in time and be like, hey, you're going to be a part of a podcast. And they'd be like, what does my son look like? You want to marry my wife? I'm like, sorry, it's only podcast related. I don't know how else to explain this. It's a very specific kind of time machine. Hold on chance. What you don't realize is the person time traveling is Finn. Finn comes from the far future.
What do you think Finn's going to tell you about the podcast? Dad, watch out. World War 3 happens in 2063. It's all floppies. Yeah, it feels so weird, especially something that was meant to just be like a goof. We would do three times. Dad mentioned it, but episode 3 was Fast the Furious 35, which is not. Good. How did he get us back after that? I guess we didn't have a choice and John wasn't there. Yeah, by law. Parental guardian and all that stuff. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I would warn myself don't go through with it because I'll say some stupid stuff every once in a while and it'll haunt me for the rest of my life.
No one had brought up paperweight in a long time is my. Pasta bear and I don't. Really know what kind of ghosts would haunt you other than Bob Marley? Shut up. I think that's my new favorite thing. It's like the Nermal all over again. Get the NERMAL. I don't think I can get a tattoo ever because of the nermal. For our listeners, we were at a comic convention once and we were walking past this artist's booth who had all kinds of Garfield tattoos. And I pointed out that one of the characters was Nermal.
And the artist was like, you know who Nermal is? Like, that's impressive. We're. Joking that nobody would ever get a nermal tattoo. Yeah. And so chance previously. Says to get a normal. Get the nermal and so Kai, who doesn't like to take risks or do things outside of his comfort zone, was like, am I allowed to? And I'm like, is this a serious conversation because I called his mom he. Said. Is it OK if Kai gets a NERMAL session? And she said yeah, if he wants to. So we were all on board with it. And so for a while, anytime we were trying to coach Kai to do something outside of his comfort zone, the chant would be get the nermal.
I genuinely don't think I could get a tattoo because nermal would be on my mind 24/7. Or you could just come in and get the NERMAL. Yeah, get the Nermal tattoo, get it out of the way, and then you can get whatever tattoo and I get. It get the nermal. Tattoo shop right on your forehead. It would be like one of those dragon tattoos in the middle of your back. That's like a big thing that's supposed to be a bragging. Dragon with a nermal head, is that what you say? You want normal reaching around you, so like arm and the rest of them on your back.
Is he hugging me? I guarantee. You would be so memorable to that tattoo artist. Hey, can I get a full body tattoo? Oh cool. What do you want to you know, the Gray cat from Garfield? I mean, it's still better than the John Arbuckle. I think that would be the worst tattoo. OK, but John Arbuckle. No, I think John Arbuckle's in the social strata at least. If you have a small I. Think people would assume you have a Gray Garfield fanfic character on you like an OC. All our fans now are shipping Kai and Nirmal.
No, you brought it up the. Shipping. Yeah, when can I leave the? Podcast. You had mentioned prior that you've got a ton of options for T-shirts. I was wondering, did you want to workshop any of those with us live here? Like, tell you what I have in my notes and see if any of them should be made into a shirt. Yeah, there's a long list here in the. Land before a time episode there was that one quote at some point someone says. But of course there are no butt braids and. That's the whole thing. Okay, go on.
Well, that didn't make the list, shockingly. Okay, I've got 1 here from Chance in season 1. It says if a potato was put to your head, I don't know what kind of shirt that would be, but I just, it's really funny. Some of us are allergic to potatoes. That's yeah, that's a. Real Here's another quote from Season 1 Learning English so you can make Clint Eastwood impressions in front of a forest of eyeballs. What episode was that from? It's room quest for Camelot. It does. The stupid chicken learns English so that he can make Clint Eastwood impressions, and the only one there to hear it are forest eyeballs.
Still doesn't make sense. I've got 1 here, a scavenger hunt in a manure pile. Oh yeah, that's. It that's my kind of joke that like metaphorical for bullying nostalgia. This is a really good one. I tried to make a shirt out of it but it just didn't come together so this is a spoiler. This is a shirt that could actually happen. It says don't step in the dark water. My parents said land before time 5 is down there. I want that. John, you would actually wear it, yes, as opposed to that. I make heavy.
Yeah, that's it. I'm fearless. I make heavy eggnog jokes. I don't know what that means. I've got 1 here when you're trying to eat an egg and you just can't get your break. Oh, it's almost a fun. And so for you, Tim, it's like how do you find the right image that goes? With it, yeah, yeah, there's a couple good ones here. Like the text is also a big issue like the don't go into the dark water land before time is down there. That's a really. Long quote. To just have some. Very quickly, yeah. Like, here's some really good ones, but none of them have really materialized into shirts.
Not my Oredon. I sold grandma and set ray guns to dentures. I feel like set ray guns to dentures, that's totally doable. What would you do as the image? John, I think I had those wind up teeth. We should just take an old 50s comic panel of adventures of space, then replace the text with set lasers to dentures. All right. John kind of hinted at it the other day. I didn't want to have the conversation until I had asked, Are we coming back for Season 5? It's. A good question. I still. Haven't done Speed racer.
OK, so. You're going to come back. Until we do Speed Racer, no. Yeah, once we do Speed Racer, I'm out of here. We have to set up a. Contract for the next season. Next season must have clutch power. What you're saying is you want to put it up for another vote? No, I said. Must. So what I was thinking is we put the three losers from last season into this season and we do another voted episode and whichever one wins gets a spot in this season and the rest get pushed to next season. No, that's awful.
Scared of losing? Spy heart again. Revenge of the Bots. Tim, I feel like you were going to be in a Hallmark movie coming up here sometime soon, so hoping we could watch that. Whatever. Happened. To that oh, Chelsea is in town next month and she said we're hanging out with Mel, so I can ask Mel to her face, I guess. Her. Oh. If you need references, just put us on the phone. Yeah, I think he's pretty cool. Elbow, please. You know, every season we've been throwing in like gimmick episode. And so I have a couple of ideas.
They're not all equally good, but I had one idea where we somehow include the audience like Elmo does in his movie or like Dora the Explorer does. But obviously we're not going to be doing it live, so you don't actually have an audience. But we can just imagine that when Tim uploads the podcast a month later, people will be blowing raspberries in their car for something happening in the episode.
John, I want you to take that silence very personally. That was a really long silence. We're going to edit that out, are you? I just want you to really sit in that. Wow, yeah, I think our experimental episodes are really fun, but they all suck every time. It's true. Here's my other thought. This one I feel like has more legs. I brought it up before we could do an ashamed nostalgia episode. Yeah, guilty pleasures, right? Yeah, something that we enjoyed watching but would never really want anyone to ever know that we were.
Talking Elmo. So I'm kind of nuclear. That guy's already done. I'm just all things in life and I've lost all care about Elmo. What's the other thing? Minecraft YouTube videos we're not. Doing those on this book. Yeah, I know. We. Have just as much chance of doing Skibity toilet. Really. You think? So I'm down. I would totally. It isn't that I got to watch 3 hours of Skibity content with chance, I'd do it. I do agree with you John. I think that the embarrassed nostalgia episode. Has tons of merit.
I think it's an awesome idea. I just don't love the name in secret. I have been workshopping a better name and I haven't come up with 1 yet, so I think that we need to massage that a little bit. Wasn't there another nostalgia one that we wanted to do but just couldn't get the name right and so we gave up? We tried bully my family podcast. Yeah. That's and we gave up on that because our theme song was so terrible. He was out of key. Jared again is our ad. Sure. I'll put it at the end of this just to remind people why they don't want to listen to our podcast.
Keep in mind this is far worse than our regular theme song. What do you mean? Keep in mind they would have had to listen to the normal one at the start of this. And floppy explosion noise I'm. Just saying that I feel good about the original and the repressed, but this third one's pretend that we didn't make it. Yeah, it was one of those things where the other ones came together so easily. We threw together the first song in less than an hour. We came back and we did the Repressed Nostalgia 1, and it was just super easy.
You just switched from a major key to a minor key and we knocked it out. Then this one went so poorly that we've never tried again. Well, the gimmick was that you just made it sound bad, so I see why. Yeah, well, John said bullying doesn't feel good, so the song shouldn't be good either. Bullying our listener is fine. Jazz. OK, well, am I cueing that song now? Are we heading out? See you guys next year. Don't forget to breathe in and. Out. Ramon. Again. Ramon. Still looking for her? Still looking for her.
All right, look out for weirdos. John, do you have anything? Nope, Nope. Nothing really. Mr. Michael Jackson. Yeah, he's haunted to his core. He's already said two tickets to Elmo please in his real life so.
Wishing we had our favourites to watch, instead we're forced to watch trash.
